Senior Neurophysiologist

Overall Purpose of Role

AMS Diagnostics is recruiting a senior Neurophysiologist to run its outpatient neurophysiology lab in Cork City, Ireland. The service is providing Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) to patients that are referred for this investigation. The company is planning on introducing Electroencephalograms (EEG’s) and Home Video Telemetry (HVT) EEG’s in the short future. The Neurophysiologist will work closely with the Consultant Neurophysiologist to advance knowledge in the field and improve patient outcomes.

The Neurophysiologist will perform duties and responsibilities according to the philosophy of AMS Diagnostics, including excellent patient care and swift access to services for our referring physicians. Patient care, teamwork & customer service are key priorities in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Triage referrals received and discuss them with Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist when required.
  • Go through patient questionnaire & relevant history with the patient prior to performing the test.
  • Thoroughly understands various disease states and factors that relate to them, various medication effects, clinical changes or complications to ensure high technical quality of the study performed.
  • Performs high-quality nerve conduction studies & EEG’s autonomously and according to protocols.
  • Produces a high-quality factual report for the Consultant Neurophysiologist to interpret and report on the studies performed. Includes notes on the study where relevant.
  • Obtains standard recordings, utilises judgement to determine whether patient meets normal standards and reports significant changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs calibration as required and ensures maintenance as appropriate.
  • Able to troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate necessary
  • Keep documentation in line with the clinic’s protocols
  • Adhere to GDPR principles at all times
  • Be confident in training and supervising new Physiologists/students in Neurophysiology studies carried out at the Diagnostic Centre.
  • Open and willing to develop new applicable services within the organisation.
  • During quiet periods be willing and able to perform other functions e.g. contact referred patients to make appointments. Show and explain to patients how to wear other at home diagnostic devices such as Holter /Sleep equipment.

Qualifications

  • Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology or from a recognised equivalent 3rd level institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-graduation experience in Neurophysiology and in performing nerve conduction studies & EEG’s autonomously.
  • High Proficiency in English (speaking & writing).
